Sunrise/Sunset Jelly Roll Race Quilt

Pattern: Jelly Roll Race: https://weefolkart.com/jelly-roll-race-quilt-directions-notes/

Fabrics: <sunrise jelly roll>; <sunset jelly roll>

For this quilt, I decided to do a jelly roll race quilt on both sides of the quilt. One side uses the sunrise jelly roll and the other side is the sunset jelly roll. I used a black fabric for the binding that I had made up for another quilt & not used. Perfect for this quilt!

More Disney Shirts

As we prepare for our trip to Disney, I've been making more shirts. I can't wait to wear them all! I've also made shirts for Jon to wear.

I bought most of the svg files on Etsy from various sellers.

Gym shirts

I've made a few gym/workout tanks. I'm really loving the ability to use HTV and create fun shirts! I bought the Bella + Canvas shirts from Jiffy Shirts, vinyl from a craft store, and made the svgs.

Anderson Milk Jug

My MIL gave me this beautifully rusted milk jug that belonged to her FIL, my husband's grandfather. She always intended for it to sit on their fireplace with flowers in it, but never quite got it there.

My first concern was that the lid was STUCK. My second concern was that as beautiful as it was just as it was, the rust was starting to get closer to eating through the metal. I really didn't want that to happen. After a chat with my MIL to express my concerns & get her blessing to change it up a bit, I got to work.

My first step was to get the lid off. It required (quite a bit of) WD40, elbow grease, and luck. After struggling with it for about 10 minutes, the lid finally came off. Inside, there were foam pieces (perfectly preserved from the 1960s) and a bag that used to hold a cleaning chemical for bar taps.

The next step was to try to get the rust off a bit more. I tried Naval Jelly, but it only helped some. Then, I broke out the Ryobi corner sander. That helped a bit more.

After everything was sanded, cleaned, and ready to go, I started with a Rustoleum "Rust" base coat of paint.

Once both coats of the rust color were dry, I covered both pieces with a Valspar "Riveria Dune" coat of paint.

I gave it all a couple of days to dry, and then started sanding to let the rust color show a bit.

It wasn't quite done yet. I wanted to honor my grandfather-in-law, but needed to figure out a way to do that. It required sending an email to all of Jon's aunts & uncles. I got the year that the Anderson's were originally married & ran with it. I also did a Rustoleum clear coat over everything.

Next was to find a way to display the bag I found. We found the perfect frame for it in Hobby Lobby.

I'm overall really happy with this project!

Disney Shirts

I'm so excited that I can make shirts for our various trips now. We're headed to Disney later this year & I wanted some fun shirts for that trip. I bought these files from Etsy (thank goodness for Etsy!) and the shirts from JiffyShirts. I'll definitely use JiffyShirts again. Here are my first two shirts for the Disney trip:

Ben's Weighted Blanket

After finishing Aiden's weighted blanket, I posted a picture of it on Facebook. My MIL saw it and called. She asked if I'd be willing to make one of her great-nephew's a couple of them. I agreed to talk with my husband's cousin to see if it'd be something she wanted for her son & see what she'd like.

I ended up making one blanket - about the same length as Aiden's (twin size or so). I used a Star Wars fabric & a fuzzy blue fabric for the back. I did the same thing as Aiden's - used a white fabric for the "backing" and then did the blue fabric as the actual backing.

Pillows from Grandma's Fabric

Uncle Mark gave me a couple of boxes/bags of fabric from Grandma Robert's things a couple of years ago. I wasn't sure what to do with it for a long time. I finally decided to do pillows because then I could make several.

I didn't use a pattern, but decided on 16x16 pillows for my mom, aunts, and uncle. I decided on 12x12 pillows for my siblings and myself. I cut the squares to 5x5 and went from there. I didn't take too many pictures because it was a secret project. Each pillow was different, which I really enjoyed.

I didn't really think about the timing when I sent them, but a couple of the pillows got delivered on what would've been Grandma's birthday, which was really special.
