Market Bag - Take 1

My sister asked me to make her a bag for her dirty cloth diapers. I found this tutorial and decided to give it a try with some fabric I had lying around. It turns out, it matches the fabrics for my SIL's quilt perfectly! Guess who's getting this bag as a gift bag?!

Fabrics for SIL's quilt. Not sure which of this set I'll use for it yet.
I got everything cut & started on the handles. I apparently read this part of the directions wrong. So, I'll do that different next time.

Everything else went pretty smoothly, just a bit time consuming because of all of the ironing. I'm happy with the finished result! Jon asked if I made it because it looked too good. I say that's a compliment!

Now, to give it a try with the water proof fabric for my sister!

Saturday Night Tunic

Another of the patterns in the Just for You book that I've been semi-drooling over. This time, I did it in the assigned month! I'm on a tunic kick right now as something easy & comfortable to wear. Kind of stylish too!

Pattern traced and all cut out
I've had this fabric for almost a year now. I originally picked it up, not knowing what to do with it. When I thought of the tunic, I immediately thought of this fabric.
This fabric is delicious!
After ironing it flat, it was time to get started. I got the pieces cut out & ready to go.
Yay for pieces!
The sewing was pretty easy. I was having a rough time making the single fold bias for some reason. I decided that next time I'll just buy it since you don't see it any how. Once I got the bias done, I got it all attached & got the rest of the tunic sewn together.
Before the finishing work. Looks kind of like a smock.
I didn't have elastic thread (which was a fun time trying to find it at one of our local Joann stores), so I had to wait to do the finishing stitching. Originally I was thinking about skipping it, but I'm glad I didn't. It really made it!

Sorry about the lighting, but it's done!
Now, to do a belt to go with it!

Headbands

I've been on a headband kick lately. I'm not sure why, but I have been. Anyhow... of course now that I have been sewing a bit again, I felt like I needed to make one to see how it turned out.

I used this tutorial and pattern: http://www.happytogetherbyjess.com/double-sided-fabric-headband-pattern/.

I have a TON of fat quarters lying around, so I figured this would be a perfect project for them. The hardest part of this pattern was finding my elastic. No, really.

Ok, I lied, turning the fabric out was really the hardest part. Once I got the hang of it, it was actually pretty easy though. I've made three of these now. Love them! I am having some "slippage" problems though, so I need to figure that out. It could be a number of things, so we'll see what I can do as I start to play with it a bit.

All done!

Floppy Hat

I've been wanting to make a "Bonnie hat" or "floppy hat" for a bit now. I finally found two patterns to choose from, read a million comments, and decided to take it on. This is the pattern I decided to try first: http://www.marthastewart.com/907171/reversible-hat I used the adult size for this hat.

Next up, I needed to select my fabric. I have a few too many choices! I ultimately decided to go with the 2 on the left of the first picture. I think I'll do the next hat in the other two from that picture.

After selecting the fabric, it was time to lay out the pattern. I probably should've ironed first, but I didn't because I was being lazy. Basically layout & cut 1 set of pieces from each fabric.
Decided! Layout of hat on fabric.
I don't have any pictures of the hat being put together. Let me just say that it was kind of a pain. I'm still working on curved sewing, for sure. Also, the brim & edge had about 1" too much fabric for the size of the top of the hat. That could've been me not putting the pattern together correctly, but I'm pretty sure I did.

The end result:
Done! It's a bit large for my head though.
Ultimately, I liked the hat once it was done. But it was too big for me. I, apparently, have a small head. So, I gave this one to my sister and will have to do the other pattern I was looking at: http://oliverands.com/free-patterns/reversible-bucket-hat/. Yup, a kid's sized pattern!

Lace Infinity Scarf

There are a few projects from the Sew She Can: Just For You book that I've been meaning to do. The lace infinity scarf is one of them. We're taking a trip to Europe later this fall, so I figured it'd be a perfect accessory while we're there.

I bought a turquoise lace fabric a couple of months ago in anticipation of this project. Of course, I now have WAY too much of it left, but what's new?!

This project was a quick sew. Basically one line on the sewing machine & some hand stitching. I did twist it a couple of times to make sure it lays better when I'm wearing it. Love that trick!
